Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: I am experiencing severe stiffness in my left hip after sitting for a short time. The stiffness wears off with walking in short order but I am feeling some pain when climbing stairs and occasionally when I lay on my left side in bed.

Brief Answer:
For how long has this been going on?

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain and stiffness that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and this could be suggestive of a degenerative joint problem referred to as coxathrosis. To follow up on this, it is important to get examined as well as have an Xray done to review this joint. This will provide specific information needed to make the diagnosis and establish a treatment plan. If there are no visible lesions, then Tylenol and Ibuprofen would be used to manage the pain as well as regular supervised physical exercises with a personal trainer.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Thank you Doctor for your assessment. I have been experiencing this problem for a few weeks with a slight worsening of the condition over time. I am an active person walking a hilly golf course on a regular basis and working out in the gym. My exercises are not hard on the hip joint however as I do not run.
I will plan on seeing a specialist and getting an Xray.
