Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Left Knee And Right Thumb
Gout or osteoarthritis likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the knee and thumb can be due to gout or due to osteoarthritis. A blood test for uric acid will help in confirmation.
A strong anti inflammatory alone is not sufficient. Sometimes we have to use a combination of medications to relieve the inflammation and help the body clear the uric acid. These medications include allopurinol, prednisone, indomethacin or colchicine. In patients who have persistent pain I often use prednisone for 3 to 5 days and patients do well. I would advise you inquire from her physician if that may be an option.
The pain increases with consumption of alcohol, seafood and meat.
Taking a diet rich in vitamin C, dairy products and coffee is likely to help in improvement of symptoms.
Drink plenty of water daily to help the kidneys clear the uric acid.
I hope this answers your query.
