Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Left Temple Region

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: I have had a dull ache in my left temple on several occasions lasting 5-15 days. This pain interferes with daily function. The pain travels into what seems my left sinus and sometimes I feel tightness in the muscles in my neck. I've had chiropractic care and nutritional counseling but these haven't helped. An MRI of the brain and CT scan of my sinus were clear and I was diagnosed with migraines. I was put on imitrex. However, the pain lasts days and taking imitrex for days in a row makes me uncomfortable.

Brief Answer:
Preventive treatment is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.
If sumatriptan doesn't help in reducing migraine headaches, or several headaches in a month, you can use preventive medication to treat migraine headaches.

Drugs used for this purpose include:

- beta blockers ( propranolol, timolol )
- calcium channel blockers ( verapamil )
- antidepressants ( Amytriptiline)
- antiseizure drugs ( valproate )

Another possibility of treating migraine headaches is Botox injections that can free you from headaches for a period of three to six months and can be repeated.

All these are prescription drugs and procedures, so there is need to discuss with your Doctor about them use.

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Take care.
