Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Mouth

Question: My 10 year old son is complaining of a pain in his mouth. In the front on the inside of his mouth, under his lip, on the inside near where the flesh meets the bone. The pain started about 15 minutes ago and he says it is severe. I cannot see anything. There may possibly be a small bit of swelling. he says that ice helps for a little bit, but the pain returns when the ice is removed. What could this be?
It is sensitive to touch; the pain in the area increases with slight gentle probing.

Brief Answer:
An OTC anti-inflammatory will settle this for now.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. This will be a mucositis and a mild cellulitis either as a result of allergy, trauma, dental, infection or reflux.
2. There is no important structure to worry about here. An anti-inflammatory such as paracetamol and brufen (if he is not asthmatic) should help. Give a single dose after a meal.
3. Later, once the pain settles, get it examined and treated by a local dentist or ENT Specialist if this is recurrent.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
