Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Arms

Posted on Mon, 20 Mar 2017
Question: I had blood drawn on Tuesday. When the phlebotomist disconnected the tube from the needle I had a sharp pain that ran down my arm to the medial aspects of my wrist. It went away so I didn't think anything of it. Today I went to do pull ups and I had intense pain in the same medial aspect of my wrist. It has now ached throughout the day thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description, the phlebotomist may have pinched a nerve or caused a minor injury in the adjoining soft tissues. NSAIDS like diclofenac or piroxicam for 5 days should help ease the inflammation. If it persists or there is additional weakness in the arm then corticosteroids along with gabapentin can be advised as part of conservative management of injection neuropathy in consultation with your doctor.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
