Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Hip

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: Hi, I'm XXXX, 75 years old. I've been having sharp pains in my left hip which I think may be my sacroiliac joint. It began when I was picking up wood in the yard. Bending up and down, upon bending up, there was a sharp pain in the left rear. I have been seeing an orthopedist re what I thought was hip pain and he thinks it's actually a back problem connected with the sacroiliac joints. Tonight trying to sleep, I turned over in the bed in such a way that the pain hit. I have chronic insomnia and take 5 mg Zolpidem. I have taken 1-1/2 pills of it tonight along with 4 500 mg extra strength generic Tylenol. Nothing helps. Have not slept at all and am just tossing and turning. I need to sleep. Our church is having a retreat from 9=3 tomorrow and I need to attend. Don't see how I can without sleep.

Brief Answer:
Slipped disc needs to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

From the symptoms,it seems that you may be suffering from a slipped disc in the lumbar spine.

Due to bending forward and lifting, the intervertebral disc had slipped out of place and has caused the nerve to get pinched. This is causing you severe pain.

I can understand that the pain you are suffering from might be severe .Actually you would need a analgesic pain killer injection at the moment.
But i doubt whether it is possible at this time.

Tramadol or ibuprofen tablets are potent pain killers and you can try them.

You can consult a orthopedist tomorrow and get an MRI done to rule out slipped disc.

Use a belt for back support till then.

Taking rest will help.

Do let me know the MRI report once it is done.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Best wishes.
