Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain Under The Rib Cage, Constipation And Fatigue

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: I have occassional severe pain under my rib cage on right (starboard) side of my body. It will move laterally sometimes and can last for several days off and on. I cannot associate it with any particular foods or meds/supplements that I eat or take. Sometimes, it seems to be associated with mild constipation, but not always (chicken and egg - what's the cause and what's the effect). I have been experiencing this occassional condition for over ten years (maybe twice a year). Additionally, dizziness and fatigue are also symptoms I experience when this condition.

Brief Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX I am Dr Malik - Gastroenterology Specialist.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting query@@HCM.
Your presentation maybe divided into three parts and would be entertained accordingly.1. Pain under rib 2. constipation 3. Fatigue (alongwith dizziness)

1. Pain under the rib. (right): the pain may most likely be related to "Liver" and/or "gall bladder" pathology. Therefore , you are advised to get the following tests done and thereafter visit gastroenterologist/hepatologist OR your treating physician.
a. Liver function test b. Ultrasound Abdomen.

2.&3. Constipation and Fatigue maybe Interrelated symptoms. Since your age is more than 55 and your experiencing these symptoms since a considerable time, i would advice you to visit a Gastroenterologist to examine your Intestine through a endoscope. This procedure is done to rule out any chronic diseases, inflammatory diseases, polyps, malignancy and any pathology of the intestine architecture.
Occasionally,a lesion in the gastrointestinal which maybe bleeding and may eventually lead to anemia(Low hemoglobin level in blood). Low hemoglobin levels may lead to fatigue. Therefore, your advised to test for:
a. Complete blood cell test b. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate

Further advice ( as prevention is better than Cure)
- avoid beverages / alcohol/ soft drinks and avoid fat/ oily food until liver tests and ultrasound results awaited
- ispagula with water to combat constipation
-warm water intake as much as possible
- eat small meals (rich in fiber)
-eat plentiful "fresh oranges" and "pear "
- avoid COLD milk and yogurt and AVOID junk food(NO burger , pizza) altogether

Results of all aforementioned tests maybe posted here.
hope to answer your queries.
