default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: I was recently treated with antibiotics for a sinus infection. I still am experiencing post nasal drip with a cold, pressure-like feeling in my throat and sternum. I also have an occasional dry cough that is not made worse by lying down or exercise.

Brief Answer:
post nasal drip is the most common cause of coughing

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Post nasal drip is the most common cause for a persistent cough so it is likely the cause of the dry cough that you are experiencing.
This can also be associated with the other symptoms that you are experiencing.

The other common causes of chronic or persistent cough are:(1) GERD (reflux) and (2) asthma

Treatment would involve the use of decongestant/anti histamine combination even if there is no nasal congestion, along with a topical steroid nasal spray.

Eg of the anti histamine/decongestant combination are zyrtec d, allegra d, claritine d, benadryl d
Nasal sprays are nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort

It can unfortunately take a few days (occasionally up the 2 weeks) for a response to occur.
If the response is delayed or inadequate then you can add medication such as ketotifen or montelukast.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
