Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: I got super sick last week. I had a terrible soar throat. When i went to the free student health center at my college, they said i had severe tonsillitis. My temperature was 104, and i had a white blood cell count of over 18,000 when they took blood. I tested negative for strep, and was treated for just tonsillitis. They gave me a 5 day long Z-Pak. That was 8 days ago. After about 3 days, i felt much better, and on the 4th day i felt almost perfect. however, i woke up the 5th day with a bad soar throat again, and in the last three days my throat has gotten worse and worse, to the point now of where i can barely eat again. I know the Z-Pak works for 10 days, but my condition is worsening. What should I do?

There is Follicular Tonsillitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Thanks for providing clinical photograph. Going by description of symptoms and clinical photograph you have got severe follicular Tonsillitis. There is still persistent infection possible with Staphylococci which are resistant to antibiotics used.

I would suggest the following which will definitely be helpful

1. Warm Saline Gargling: To a glass of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of common table salt. Gargle the throat with it thrice a day

2. Povidone Iodine Mouth Gargle: Gargling the throat with Povidone Iodine (Betadaine Mouth Gargle solution) thrice a day will be helpful. Alternate it with above mouthwash

3. Change of antibiotic: Using Augmentin antibiotic for another 5 days will be helpful

4. Avoid cold and frozen food

4. Decoction: To a cup of milk add 1 spoon of turmeric + 10 leaves of holy basel(provided its available) + 1 spoon sugar+ 3 black pepper. Bring the mixture to boil. Filter it and drink it warm twice a day

5. To a spoon of honey add 2 drops of fresh lemon juice and sip it 4-5 times a day

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
