Suggest Treatment For Severe Spasms In The Calf Muscles And Feet

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: I have had severe muscle spasms in my left calf and left and right feet. This has been going on for about 2 months. Muscle relaxers do not work. I have had physical therapy and went to a chiropractor, with no results. What can the problem be? My potassium level is normal also I also have 2 fractures in my left foot that have healed. Fractures did not require surgery. I do have numbness in my baby toe and the one next to it in my left foot. The numbness has been there for over a month. Recently had parathyroid surgery. Had 2 parathyroids removed on 1-6-17.

Brief Answer:
Several possible causes

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
First, you should check you potassium, calcium, blood sugar and magnesium levels. If these are fine then you can look for other causes and these include deep vein thrombosis which should be ruled out with Doppler ultrasound, neuropathy which may be ruled out with lumbar spine MRI and electromyography. Also, vessel atherosclerosis is possible cause. Other causes are rare and should be considered if there is no improvement on magnesium and calcium supplement therapy.

Wish you good health.
Regards
