Suggest Treatment For Severe Stomach Pain And Nausea

Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: I have taken my 15 year old granddaughter to the emergency room two times. The first time on Friday XXXXXXX 10, and Wednesday XXXXXXX 15, for severe stomach pain. She was given a blood test both times and the results were clear, no appendicitis. The second time I insisted on an ultrasound, they did give her a bedside ultrasound and checked foe gallstones.

She is usually nauseous, but always has pain in the upper right, under her ribs, after she eats.
I've given her Malanta with relief for only 20 minutes, I also had her try omeprazole 20, yesterday and today. Still no relief. I'm at a loss, mshould I go to ER out of town?

Brief Answer:
Please give details and feedback.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query about your granddaughter.
To recapitulate: Female/15 - twice to ER - for pain in abdomen - right upper - under ribs - increases on eating - has nausea - blood and ultrasound normal - Mylanta helps only for 20 minutes - tried Omeprazole - wants to know whether to go to ER out of town .

Please give additional information for me to assist her better:
- Stool: color, consistency, smell, worms, frequency?
- Any bloating?
- Pointed pain with finger?
- Any other enhancing or relieving factors?

I would advise you the following :
Take her to the center where she can be examined by a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and order further relevant investigations.
Standing X-ray of the abdomen and CT scan can be of tremendous help as ultrasonography of the abdomen has its own limitations.
Yes, take her to the another ER.

I hope this answer helps her. Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication. lease give the feedback about the details asked and the impression of the General Surgeon.
