Suggest Treatment For Severe Tooth Ache

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: Hi I have tooth ache probably due to the growth of a wisdom tooth, and it also reaches my ears. The pain increases when I lie down, otherwise it is mild. I am away from home and pharmacies but have ornidazol and azythromycin tablets with me for emergencies. Should I take them?

Brief Answer:
You can use OTC analgesics and may need antibiotics course

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through. Based on the history you have shared, you need to start OTC analgesics like acetaminophen for pain and if severe more potent analgesics like Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like naproxen or ibuprofen may be needed. If pain doesn't settle with these, only than a course of antibiotics may be considered otherwise it's better to get it examined first by your dentist.

Ornidazole can be started if was prescribed earlier for the current issue and alongwith that ideally a gram positive bacteria coverage with penicillin antibiotics like augmentin or amoxicillin is first line choice but in their absence azithromycin can also be given but only if signs of infection on examination are evident and no contraindication exist.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
