Suggest Treatment For Severely Wounded Knee And Reduced Physical Activity After Injury

I am was also a big runner before the fall but I now only run twice a week, both 5k. I have no real pain to speak of, just a niggly feeling on my knee when I am sitting or crouching.
2 days ago I had an mri done on my knee just to see what exactly was going on, I have attached the report and the mri scan photos which they gave me on cd. The result is a partial patellar tendon tear, I could not see it myself on the scan and that is the reason I am here, I am hoping you would take a look and give me a second opinion and maybe some info on where to go from here.
As I said I have no real pain to speak of so I dont think surgery is neccessary unless it is absolutely the best choice, I am going to my physio on Thursday also to see where I can go from here. Im not sure where the running stands now either? will I have to trade it in for cycling and for how long?
And finally I am considering going to a PT in a gym to see if he can give me a workout plan to suit me and my injury, this whole situation is a real pain in the neck but it could be worse I suppose!
Thanks,
XXXX
You do not need any surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I can assure you that you do not need any surgery as it is a partial tear and there is no discontinuity of the tendon. So there is nothing which needs any repair. I have following suggestions for you.
1. Continue static quadriceps exercises but not against weight or resistance.
2.Do not do any activity which causes pain in knee.
3.Give some time so that tendon can heal, it may take three to four months.
4. Hot water fomentation is good for you.
5.Tablet Tendocare one daily for healing.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

1. My physio on Thursday will give me new exercises for my quads so I'm wondering if I can still run? I don't have pain from running and can do 5k on grass fairly easily, is road running a no-no because of the high impact?
2. When you say 3-4 months for tendon to heal, that's 7 months total from day of injury right? There isnt much info. Online regarding partial patellar tendon tear natural healing. Will the damaged tendon strands eventually become scar tissue or will they try and reconnect?
3. Will a beanbag heat pack do for hot water fomentation?
4. Can I buy tendocare over the counter and does it really aid in a quicker recovery?
Do i need to ask my doctor? If so, I'm all for it.
Thanks,

Tendocare is available with prescription
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying. Here are answers of your questions in same sequence.
1.Running is allowed till you do not feel any pain. But do not put too much strain. Gentle running is ok. Do not run on hard surface.
2.Tendon are very slow to heal so it may take seven months. it will be healed by fibrous tissue but there will not be any functional problem.
3.Hot water has best penetration. Moist heat is always better.
4.Tendocare is a new medicine and I have started using it for tendon injury. It has shown some good results. You need to have your doctor's prescription for it.
Feel free to ask any other questions.
thanks.
