Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain And Sensitivity Over The C-section Scar

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Nov 2015
Question: Hi, I had my baby via C-section 16th months ago and I still experience pain where my incision is. Sometimes the pain is sharp, while other times it feels more like contractions across my scar. My active 1 1/2 year baby she tends to jump on my cut area and it's really sensitive so it hurts. When I wear jeans, especially with a belt, it hurts. When i wear those stretchy pants it still hurts. Any type of pressure it hurts. When I'm pulling down my panties it hurts. I have made several attempts to do workout for my abs and I cannot get thru the second day without feeling this bloated like, sharp pain in my lower abdomen. What could be the cause of this?

Brief Answer:
possible intra-abdominal adhesions / nerve entrapment

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to healthcare magic for an opinion.
As it has already been 16 months post c-section ideally the wound must have healed completely and the sensitivity which you are experiencing as on date usually subsides by 6 months post operation.
The most likely cause of sharp pain and sensitivity over the c-section scar is likely to adhesion formation between abdominal organns and the anterior abdominal wall over the scar tissue which can actually cause pain during stretching or pressure.
It is suggested that you should get an ultraspund pelvis to identify or look for adhesions and also estimate the scar thickness, which is if less than 2mm, indicates poor healing of the scar.
Another possible reason could be nerve entrapment which can bring about continuos sensitivity and often sharp pains on stretch or pressure.
You should get yourself locally examined by your gynaecologist and get an ultrasound done and if required a laparoscopic approach may be considered to rule out any adhesion or even endometriosis for that matter which often has a similar presentation( but pain is associated with menstrual cycles).
I hoep i have answered your query in detail,
Wishing you good health,
Regards
