Suggest Treatment For Shingles In A Diabetic

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Sep 2017
Question: Hi, I am a fairly healthy male. I am 60. I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Recently 4-5 days ago, hip joint on my left side started aching. In addition to a constant aching, I had sharp stabbing pains in my bone. It then spread to my femur and I could feel the pain throughout the day move down to my knees. My skin on my thigh feels like I have a sunburn. Today I awoke and found little sores on my buttocks above the area that was painful. My legs now have these sores breaking out above the areas of pain. I have never had anything like this. My wife thinks it is shingles based on her research.

Brief Answer:
Please upload an image

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. However, I would insist you to upload an image of the sores. An image will also help in distinguishing shingles. I would insist you not to ignore the rashes and to manage them with utmost priority. Diabetes predisposes you to such sores and unless they are taken care of, it could turn serious. Dressing with agents like wasa mousse spray can be advisable.

I would also insist you to visit a doctor and to get a thorough evaluation done. The stabbing pains could be due to bony or soft tissue cause and need to be distinguished. Electrolyte imbalance could lead to muscle spasm and precipitate such pains. Taking juicy fruits like citrus fruits could help. Taking Aleve (naproxen) can relieve the pain.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
