Brief Answer:
Not quite sure of the question.

Detailed Answer:
Gabapentin does have a considerable number of people who feel too sedated when taking it (up to 1 in 3). This would be a bit lower on a lower amount. While it is not recommended, there is very little consequence of undoing a capsule and just taking less of whatever is in it.

There are a lot of related drugs that work on shingles plain. I'm sorry you have it, and, most other nerve pain is much harder to find something that works on it. Most with shingles pain get good results on inexpensive medicines with a good safety profile, while most with diabetic pain either have to go on truly scarey amounts of narcotics or not have any pain relief.

Lidocaine patches, amitryptiline, and some other antiepileptic medicines usually work well with shingles. But a lower dose of a medicine that you know works is better than trying something new that you don't know.
