Brief Answer:
Ice, rest and analgesics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

From what you are describing, most probably it is something muscular or an inflamed tendon or a pinched nerve (if you are feeling numbness). You might have done some movement, or slept in a position that have inflamed any of the tissues there, which is causing the pain.

Initial therapy consists of ice, rest, and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Ice- is generally believed to decrease acute swelling and inflammation and to provide some analgesia.
- Rest – Rest means avoiding activities that aggravate symptoms, including all overhead activities.
- NSAIDs – For acute injuries, I would give a short course (ie, 7 to 10 days) of scheduled NSAID therapy- Ibuprofen (400mg 3 times/day) or Naproxen (500mg twice/day), after food. Also, apply locally and analgesic cream by massaging 3-4 times/day.

It may need up to 3-4 weeks to heal completely.
It is very important that you keep a good posture and also try to identify what might have been the cause of the inflammation so you can avoid it from repeating.
If worse or not better in XXXXXXX one week time, I would recommend seeing a local doctor who can examine you, determine which tissue is inflamed and suggest specific exercises to keep the range of motion of the shoulder.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
