Question : I have had a shooting pain in the center of my right thigh which is worse when I lie in bed and go to turn over. When the discomfort is stronger, the pain can also be in my right buttock and radiate to my right groin. I've been told that it could be sciatica or something to do woth my right hip. (my left hip has osteoporosis) . The pain started eight years ago subsequent to a fall (i fell on my left side and broke my left ankle in several places. I have receovered from the fall and the left side is fine. It's the right thigh that is annoying and I have been told that I am favoring it when I walk.

Brief Answer:
It can be due to sciatica or stress both

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain in hip joint radiating in thigh can be due to nerve compression in spine.(sciatica) it can be also due to putting more weight on affected side. I have following suggestions for you.
1.You need to get MRI for the spine to confirm the diagnosis. MRI will tell us about site and severity of nerve compression. According to that further management can be planned.
2.Tablet Pregabalin m should be taken at night time. It is a good medication for shooting pain but you will need prescription for it.
3.In cases where medicines are not effective you can sued steroid injection in the spine. it will give good pain relief.
4.In resistant cases you will need surgery.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
