Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath And Fatigue

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: i am trying to get help for my mother. She lives in FL. She is legally blind so I help her out as much as I can. It's been about a month now that she is experiencing shortness of breath. Before the shortness of breath she had extreme fatigue. She has seen a cardiologist. All tests have come back "normal". They said her lungs are clear and she has the heart of a 30 year-old. She spent a week in the hospital and had every known test done, Everything says there is nothing wrong other than her iron level. She is anemic. She had her first transfusion of iron today. With steroids on board in case of a reaction, she feels worse now than a month ago. PPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEE help me help my mom! I told her maybe she needs a new internal medicine doc. Any help would be so appreciated!

Brief Answer:
She may require blood transfusion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

There are many causes of breathlessness apart from heart and lung problems. For example Kidney problem, metabolic diseases, liver problem, problems in brain or in blood.

You said she is anemic due to low iron. But what is the cause of low iron? Has this been diagnosed? She might be losing blood slowly in urine or motion or her body is not absorbing iron from gut due to some disease in gut.

So I need to go through all her reports to check what all has been tested and anything has been missed or not , if so I shall advise those tests which have been missed.

Also let me know how much she is anemic ( how low is her hemoglobin ) because if hemoglobin is very low she requires blood transfusion as it will give more faster results than iron transfusion.

Kindly revert back with details asked and the test reports.

Regards.
