Question : I went to ER yesterday with aching in my shoulders and neck area.. after doing a bunch of tests doc said my heart was fine and my blood work came back normal... she decided that I had Silent Reflux.. however, this aching doesn't only happen when I am laying down.. it occurs when I am walking across a parking lot or if I am vacuuming.. and as well when I am waking up from a nap... I just don't see how it coujld be Reflux.. what is your opinion..

                                    Brief Answer:
It still can be due to Reflux.
Detailed Answer:
HI
Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.
Yes it could be due to Reflux. Reflux need not only happen when you like down , it can happen anytime and in any position.
More over the medicine Metformin can cause Gastritis which in turn lead to Reflux. Most of the time the pain in reflux is Burning type so is your pain burning or aching type.
The other possibility is Nerve compression at your neck level. The tests that can diagnose your condition is Upper Gastrointestinal endoscopy and if that comes normal then get MRI Cervical Spine.
Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

It could be due to Nerve Compression.
Detailed Answer:
HI
Thanks for the information.
If its aching then there is a possibility of Nerve Pull at your neck level. In that case you can follow either of following 2 ways.
1 Continue Lansoprezole for few more days and observe what happens , if you feel better then it indicates your pain is due to Reflux.Or get Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy scan done which will confirm or refute the diagnosis of Reflux.
2. Get MRI Scan of Cervical Spine which will confirm or refute the diagnosis of Nerve Compression.
Hope this information was useful to you.
