Question : Should doxy-cycline HYC 100mg be taken with food, or just a glass of water? My husband just started on this medicine last night for some sort of bacterial infection, location unknown, in his body. Since starting this medication his headache has become worse, more intense and he has lost his appetite. But I think his chills and fever have gotten better. He saw a nurse practitioner yesterday morning, she ordered blood tests, and this is what was prescribed for my husband. He is allergic to penicillin. He had felt ill since last Sunday afternoon, but at first it was a reaction to some new foods he had eaten.

Dear Ms, I have been through your question and I understand your concerns .. doxycycline dose not contain penicillin but doxycycline HCL is known to cause headache and loss of Apetite ..
it is typically taken with a full glass of water , but in case it causes gastric irritation which is common then it can be taken with food or with plenty of fluids ( other than milk)..
you need to know that once you started the antibiotic course of doxycycline it is adviced to complete the full course to avoid recurrence of symptoms in more severe form and to avoid developing resistance to this type of antibiotic .
