Question : I'm 47years old and was on mercilon for about 20 years and felt great, due to my age the doctor changed my pill to the XXXXXXX pill which did not agree with me, I had a bloated stomache and mood swings so stopped taking it. I've since had very heavy painful periods so she has suggested the Mirena coil but it can give you ovarian cysts and my mum died of ovarian cancer aged 58 years old so I'm not keen to have it. Can I possibly take the mercilon pill again or is my age a problem thanks XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

                                    Brief Answer:
At your age, I will not recommend mercilon!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Given your age, I will not advise that you take Mercilon. I rather suggest you try alternate pills which are free of estrogens. I know it is difficult given the challenges you are currently facing with the switch but the risk of continuing is somehow an issue to me.
I will say, NO.....No more mercilon for you. Am so sorry about this.
Let me know if t=you have further worries!

                                    Brief Answer:
Ovarian cysts are benign and most disappear!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your worries about ovarian cysts and Mirena. Their occurrence is very rare and most would eventually disappear. Weight gain isn't that out of proportion unless there is a drastic change in your diet. As long as you eat healthy and exercise often, weight gain, if at all, can only be modest.
I wish you well and let me know what you choose to do.

Sorry about that!

Hi,
I understand your fears but cysts don't evolve to cancer. If that is so much of a worry to you, then we may not want you on Mercilon. However, only a few ^persons who take this drug develop a cysts and it is not a universal occurrence in most who use it. What about using and regular check ups of the ovaries?
I wish you well.
