Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Topamax

Question: After beginning a new med. Topamax, my daughter began with strange things happening with her mouth. the bottom lip jetting out, and constant lip smacking. she never, ever did this before. Are these tics? Please help.

I am not computer literate, so please not too many more computer ????.

Thanks for asking on this platform

I can understand your concern. Topamax contains topiramate a medicine used to control seizures and zoloft contains sertraline an antipsychotic/antidepressant.
There are reports which have shown tic disorder(like abnormal smacking movement,blinking of eyes,protrusion of tongue or lips movement with use of both topiramate and sertraline.
Although these side effects are very less(in less than 1% cases)it is more common with sertraline in comparison to topiramate.
Decrease in dose of medication or its discontinuation helps in relieving the symptoms.So I request you to consult your neurologist for clinical evaluation and reduction of dosage if needed.
