Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I see that she felt fluish after Mucinex PM. That product has a number of different ingredients in it (diphenhydramine which is what is in Benadryl, phenylephrine, acetaminophen). If the main problem is congestion, and she is on Vyvanse, here are some safe things to try:

1. Guaifenesin: This is a mucolytic and it is in Mucinex PM too, but your daughter may have felt sick from the other meds in Mucinex PM. Consider just getting guaifenesin alone. It is safe with Vyvanse. For it to work well, drink 2 glasses of water for every 400 mg.

2. Saline rinses: She can either get a nettipot and saline packets and irrigate her sinuses, or buy ready made saline sprays such as Simply Saline. To irrigate rather than just moisten, she should tip her head to one side (over the bathroom sink) and spray in to the upper nares, until it flows out of the lower nares. Don't blow hard to get the fluid out as blowing can make it end up in the eustachian tube/ears. Repeat on opposite side with other nares.

3. Nasal steroid such as Flonase: this can take a couple of days to work well, but it will decrease sinus swelling. Don't use shortly before or after the saline rinses or it will wash the medicine away or cause it to drip down into the stomach.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
