Question : Please help me. I have been coughing for awhile now. I have a nasty sinus infection and have had the flu. I have an off again on again low grade fever and am a light to moderate smoker, moderate a few weeks ago and very light now.
I also have GERD and asthma. recently my cough has become less frequent but occasionally as in one every day or two I'll start coughing as I am exhailing, this leads to moments of almost blacking out and being very disoriented during and for a couple minutes after. minor episodes have occurred while driving but the worst are usually when I'm lying down and it hits and I can't move. I had a lung CT in November haand an ex ray last month. both came back clear. I don't know what to do or even what to tell the Dr should I go. please tell me what to do.

Brief Answer:
Treatment of GERD and sinus infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
I can understand your concern.
As CT scan chest and X rays are clear, it is unlikely to be a serious concern.
Severe coughing increases blood supply and pressure to brain , this causes minor disorientation and black out for time being.
I suggest you following,
1.Regular steam inhalation
2.Avoid extreme climate
3.Avoid smoking
4.Breathing exercise
5.Proper treatment of GERD, as it definitely causes cough impulse.
6.Treatment of sinus infection, as posterior nasal drip also causes cough reflex.
Pantoprazole and domperidone combination empty stomach for GERD and a broad spectrum antibiotic like Azithromycin and anti histamine like levocetirizine might help you a lot.
Hope I have answered your query.
If any thing else you are welcome.
Good luck.
