Question: Hi. Im kinda freaking out after my doctor appointment yesterday. So i gave my boyfriend oral thrush about a month ago. I was freaking out about it and a couple days after he got tested for HIV/STD and all the results came back negative. After the oral sex my throat was hurting really bad. I went to an urgent care and she said i didnt have strep but my throat was really irritated, she said it could he the start of a sinus infection. (I also had some postnasal drip) so she perscribed me amoxicillin. After taking the anoxicillin for a couple days i got an oral thrush and went to the doctor again and got medicine to clear that. When i went for my physical yesterdag i told her about the thrush after taking the amoxicillin and she said it was really strange for me to get thrush at my age? Ive been freaking out because could it have been something due to me giving oral thrush? Please help me.

Brief Answer:
Altered balance of microorganisms with amoxicillin

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.

Candida albicans fungus is naturally found in the mouth in small amounts. Oral thrush develops when these levels increase. People may get oral thrush at any age, it's more common in people with suppressed immunity and in babies and the elderly and people taking particular medications. Oral thrush can easily be cured if you have been healthy. It is possible that rarely you may get it when antibiotics disturb the natural balance of microorganisms in your body. You might have got oral thrush for this reason.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXx,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. If your partner had candidiasis infection in his penis then it can be transmitted from him.

2. The risk of HIV from oral sex is very less and there is little to worry about it. If both of you have tested negative after 3 months then almost confirmed that you will not get HIV.

3. Suppressed immunity is a condition when the body cannot fight infections by itself and so any disease condition cannot be controlled.

4. Stress can contribute to a slightly weakened immune system leading to oral thrush.

Hope your query is answered.

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Your tongue does not look like oral thrush.
There are patches on the surface of tongue and is due to common condition called benign migratory glossitis or geographic tongue. There may be some discomfort and change in appreciation of taste. You must take nutritious food and fruits.
Please reduce intake of hot, spicy, acidic or salty foods.
