Question : My daughter is 19. She was treated for a sinus infection last week, but was still sick. on Wednesday she was diagnosed with mono. Monday she developed a painful sore throat Today she felt she was a little better earlier, but still had the sore throat. Her phlegm has a small amount of blood in it. A few minutes ago, we took her temperature, and it was 103.2. Should I take her to the emergency room?
Brief Answer:
Common symptoms of Mono
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Her symptoms are common in Infectious Mononucleosis. Please give her an antipyretic like Paracetamol . She can gargle her throat with slightly warm saline or Betadine gargles.
Do not give any antibiotic containing Amoxicillin, it can make the disease worse. If there is a secondary infection, Azithromycin would be a good antibiotic.
If symptoms do not improve, she should be seen by the doctor again.
Hope she would get well soon.
