default
Posted on Thu, 11 Aug 2016
Question: I am having a lot of skin tags around my neck. There used to be 3 tags initially, but in the last six months, I am seeing at least 10 more. Also, there are a couple of tags in my eye lids. Would like to know the preventive measures on how not to get the skin tags. Also, how to get rid of the skin tags? Please help me. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Rule out hypothyroidism and insulin resistance, get them removed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through complaints.
Skin tags are benign growths which are commonly seen in middle age in Asians.
They have no specific cause of their occurence in majority of the individuals but in some persons with hypothyroidism, insulin resistance and obesity there is increased chances of skin tags.
Get your thyroid function tests and serum insulin levels tested.
For the skin tags that are already present you need to get them removed with radiofreqency ablation or snip excision.
It is a minor office procedure that can be done at a dermatologist clinic.
