Brief Answer:
likely depressive symtpoms, antidepressant medicines would help

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

I can understand your concern.

Insomnia for long time can cause depression and insomnia can be part of symptoms of depression.

When problem begins with insomnia without depressive features, treatment for insomnia is sufficient.Benzodiazepine group of medicines like alprazolam, clonazapam, lorazepam can help in treatment.

When there is depression, person's sleep is disturbed. In this case treatment of insomnia with benzo helps but ultimate treatment is antidepressant medicines for depression.

Before 7 years you have depression with insomnia that was improved with alprazolam. Is there any other medicine was given at that time?

Lack of confidence, uneasiness and memory loss(forgetfulness) are symptoms suggestive of depression.

In depression in actual there is no memory loss but person feels that he/she is not able to remember important things. This is actually due to disturbed thought process and not able to retain things in mind.

For confirmation of diagnosis detail history and mental status examination required by a psychiatrist. After diagnosis anti depressant medicines should be given. It can solve your problem.

Revert back to me with more information:

-Do you have any social, occupational, emotional stress right now?

-Are there other symptoms suggestive of depression?

-Is your daily routine(social and occupational) is going on well without any disturbance?

-Explain more about memory loss with example.

-Do you have any other physical problem? If yes, is any medicine going on for the same?

- Do you have any habit of smoking or alcohol?

Hope this answer is helpful and I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
