Suggest Treatment For Sleep Talking

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Jun 2015
Question: ok. I am 67 and have had my dreams escalate to more than just talking in my sleep from time to time. Last night, I woke up on the floor after struggling to get out of bed in the dream. Don't remember the dream though. This happened two or three times this year.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry, it requires no treatment, let me know if other problems

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Sleep talking is normal occurrence. It is more seen in children.Very less seen in adults and elder people.

If there is occasional episode without any sleep disturbance no need to worry.

It can also occur in other sleep disorders like sleep walking. Sometime Certain medications, emotional stress, fever or substance use are responsible factors.

If your sleep is satisfactory and you do not have any physical or psychological health problem, no need to worry. It requires no treatment.

However if you feel anything significant let me know so we can discuss further.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Brief Answer:
Sleep study is required for evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sorry for delayed response.

If these events are disrupting your sleep, investigations are required.

REM sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) is one of the possibilities. People with RBD scream, shout, grunt, and act out their dreams, often violently.

Other possibilities to be ruled out are confusional arousal, psychiatric problems, nocturnal seizures.

For diagnosis detail history, physical examination and sleep study are required. I think you should see a doctor who can perform a sleep study to arrive at the diagnosis. If you don't find one, a psychiatrist will be able to help you.

Hope this answers your concern, Feel free to discuss further.
