Suggest Treatment For Sleeping Issues, Diarrhea And Tingling Sensation In Legs

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Dec 2016
Question: I am having trouble sleeping the past several nights, following a bout with diahirra since Thanksgiving. Both legs have increasing amounts of tingling, especially when I lay down and try to sleep. I have had one injection in both in knees last August with orthovisc, and while the knees have improved markedly, now both ankles and feet are feeling increasing discomfort, with slight numbness and tingling. I am very active in that I swim 30 minutes most days, ride a spinning bike for hour, and walk frequently to Newton Center from my home--12 to 15 minutes. I take a blood pressure med (doxazosin or cardura) 4mg plus a Zocor plus Metoprolol (50mg).

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of peripheral neuropathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your symptoms and based on that we need to exclude peripheral neuropathy, where the nerves in skin (over legs and hands) get affected. Tingling, numbness and weakness of legs are usual symptoms. Clinical examination, followed by nerve conduction studies can confirm or exclude the diagnosis.

As of now, for relief, you may take pregabalin (lyrica) capsules for relief from tingling. Zolpidem is a safe medicine for sleeplessness.

I sincerely hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
