Suggest Treatment For Sleeplessness

Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I can't keep my eyes open. I work and I want to fall asleep. I have been doing this about 6 months.
It doesn't seem to be getting better, in fact, worse. Is there a disease for sleeping disease?

Brief Answer:
You need a general medical examination

Detailed Answer:
Good morning. I am Dr. Saghafi and would like to answer your question. In direct fashion, YES there are specific SLEEPING SICKNESSES and diseases that directly alter sleep patterns. Some people CANNOT FALL asleep and in others they can't stay awake.

In your case, before I'd jump to any conclusions that you had any of those very RARE entities I would simply recommend a general physical and laboratory examination by your primary physician. They may send you on to a neurologist such as myself if he were to find anything that appeared to be of a NEUROMUSCULAR nature such as myasthenia gravis or similar.

However, most of the time fatigue (one of the most commonly complained of symptoms on the planet; aside from crooked politicians) can be traced to some metabolic disturbance, anemia, medication side effects, low thyroid activity, low physical/exercise activity levels, less than adequate nutrition, etc. etc.

And so, bottom line- you should visit your doctor for a good overall physical if you haven't had one with some basic laboratory analyses, urine, blood counts, sleep hygiene history, etc. and then, see what the results show. From there an action plan can be implemented and hopefully, in short order you'll start to feel better.

If these answers satisfactorily relate to your question then, I'd appreciate the favor of a HIGH STAR RATING with some written feedback on your part.

Also, closing the query on your end will be most helpful and appreciated so that this question can be transacted and archived expeditiously and for further reference by colleagues as necessary.

I am happy to answer additional questions in this set if any but if not please keep me informed as to the outcome of your situation by writing to me at:
