default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: today for the first time my wife has twice had bright red blood in her stool when she pees, coming from her anus. She has a small external hemorrhoid, which was inflamed a couple of days ago but following Prep H has calmed down. This is something new. She is 47 and very healthy, thin and works out everyday.
No continual bleeding, just notices during urination. She has no pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.
I appreciate your concerns regarding your wife.

Bleeding is most likely from hemorrhoids only. Treatment of which is simple
First step to treat hemorrhoids is to keep her stool soft by taking lots of fibres and fluid in your diet. I mean to say lots of fruits and vegetables. Other food items that have high fibre content are oats, whole wheat , ragi, barley, greens, beans, peas, lentils.

Some medicines are available like calcium dobesilate which is to be taken thrice in a day, tablet diosmin to be thrice a day, and euphorbia which is to be taken once in a day, the combination of which I found very useful in my patients with bleeding piles. You can get prescription of these drugs from your doctor. Most of the the time bleeding is stopped with these steps.
.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help her . Wish you a good health
