Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.

To recapitulate: Male/37 - just found - small hard spot under skin - near lower rib cage - on your side...

This can be due to one of the following reasons:

- Sebaceous cyst: moves with skin, not very much freely XXXXXXX may have a black spot over it called as punctum which is the blocked duct opening. can become infected, can enlarge fast and tender, red.

- Lipoma: freely XXXXXXX under the skin, no pain, no tenderness, no alteration of the skin above, does not get infected and grows very slowly.

- Can be costochondritis: the lump is fixed to the underlying rib and muscles.

- Other reasons of such a lump can be diagnosed on histopathology examination.

I would advise you the following:

Get a clinical evaluation, examination and tests like high resolution ultrasonography.

Take an opinion of a General Surgeon insist on removal for 2 reasons-
1> you'll get rid of the swelling if it is removable.
2> You'll get a confirmed histopathological diagnosis.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Regards
