Suggest Treatment For Small Pink, Or Flesh-colored Raised Bumps On Pelvic Area

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: I have what may be mollusucs, that has spread around my pelvic area. It started as what I thought was a zit, at the base of the penile shaft. I ended up nicking it with a raiser by accident, and then another popped up right next to it. Then, I noticed another on the left side of my pelvis, which I absentmindedly scratched. Now I have these small, bumps, that appear flesh colored with red at the base, that has spread on my pelvis.

Brief Answer:
Most likely you have molluscum contagiosum.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Thank you for sending the pictures, they were useful.
In my opinion(considering the pictures) most likely you have molluscum contagiosum.
It is a viral skin infection. The virus causes small white, pink, or flesh-colored raised bumps or growths with a dimple or pit in the center. The bumps are usually smooth and firm.
The virus that causes molluscum is spread from person to person by touching the affected skin.
You might also get infected by touching things that have been contaminated by the virus (by sharing towels, flannels or soft toys that have been used by someone who has molluscum contagiosum).
Once someone has the virus, the bumps can spread to other parts of their body by touching or scratching a bump and then touching another part of the body (that might be the reason they are spreading on your pelvis).
Molluscum can be spread from one person to another by sexual contact.

Molluscum usually disappears within 6 to 12 months without treatment and without leaving scars.
There are a large number of possible treatment's for molluscum contagiosum including:
-removing the fluid inside the bumps (curettage),burst the mollusca with a sterile needle.
-Another option is to frozen the molluscum with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy).
-Creams and lotions may be used(hydrogen peroxide,Imiquimob cream)
-Laser therapy

Usually no treatment is needed because the bumps disappear by themselves within 6-12 months.
I suggest to consult a dermatologist or your general physician so he can confirm this diagnosis(by physical examination) and you can discuss with him the best option of treatment for you.

It is important to know that sexual contact should be stopped until this infection is cleared.

Hope my answer has helped. If you have any further question please feel free to write me,I will be happy to help.

Take care.

Thanks doctor, I just wanted to get some information before I schedule my appointment with my doctor tomorrow. Just wanted to be sure that it was not a case of genital warts, or something worse. Are there any precautions (other than sexual abstinence) that I should take?

Brief Answer:
From the pictures it seems to be molluscum contag.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

From the pictures you send I can tell that the view is characteristic for molluscum contagiosum but a closer evaluation by your doctor is necessary.
Your doctor usually can diagnose just by looking at it. If there's any doubt, he or she may take skin scrapings from the infected area and view them under a microscope.

Right now the only precautions you can take are to help prevent the spread of the virus. Some tips are:
-Wash your hands. Keeping your hands clean can help prevent spreading the virus.
-Avoid touching the bumps. Shaving over the infected areas also can spread the virus.
-Don't share personal items (clothing, towels, hairbrushes or other personal items).
-Avoid sexual contact.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Best Regards.
