Suggest Treatment For Small Red Rash On Left Foot

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: I have a small red rash on my left foot near the sole which has been there for nearly one month. No itching or burning, no rashes or skin issues anywhere else. I have severely swollen and painful joints and terrible low back pain which make it difficult to walk. History of fibromyalgia but the severity increased approximately 2 months ago. Migraines 2+ times per week despite prophylactic medications and headaches daily. Thoughts on what this rash could be and if it could be related to my other issues?
Thanks in advance,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Could you please upload a photograph of the affected area

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the details. Unless I could examine the rash and clinically correlate the situation, it is hard for me to comment whether the rash is due to contact dermatitis or some allergic reaction. I would insist you to upload an image of the same using the facility on the upper right of this page. I do not think that it is linked to the other mentioned issues.
If you are getting daily headaches, prophylactic medications are not helping and alternatives need to be searched for. As of now, taking Aleve (naproxen) one or two tablets together as per requriement should provide relief.
For the low back pain, the cause is likely to be muscle spasm as spondylosis is unusual at your age. Hot compress and physical therapy should help.

Brief Answer:
Check the soles of your shoes first.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back and for attaching the image. I have gone through it. The first thing that I would need to ask is whether the inner soles of your shoes are soft and smooth and whether you could have getting uneven pressure while walking. You should also get your fasting blood sugar checked since high blood sugar predisposes to similar problems. If that is not the case, the next possibililty is a fungal infection. In that case, application of candid lotion (clotrimazole) should be helpful. If that does not help, you should visit a dermatologist and get yourself examined.
Hope that helps.
