Question : Hi, I've had a sore and itchy butt crack that started I believe in the summer. It is itchy from the anus to the top of my butt and his very sore and at times I'm so sore it is difficult to sit. I use cleansing wipes after each bowel movement to keep the area clean and I have use Vaseline and other antibacterial ointments but nothing helps for more than a half hour and the itchy feeling and soreness starts up again. Is this something I need to go to the doctor for? I'm afraid of infection

Crack in the anal region could be due to anal fissures.
Anal fissures are painful and can be infected by the bacteria in the anal canal and the surrounding skin.
The symptoms of pain and itchiness can aggravate by defecation especially when stools are hard.
Thus, the stools should be soft to avoid pain in the region.
Thus, I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment of the lesion.
In case the crack is due to anal fissure, stool softener needs to be used.
Local application of antibiotic cream is also required to avoid infection.
7-10 days will lead to healing of the lesion.
