Brief Answer:
Try anti-acid such as omeprazole, tums, Pepcid.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

A sour taste is usually associated with acid reflux. I would recommend taking omeprazole or Nexium daily to help with the acid reflux. You can also try toms or Pepcid. You can get all three of them over-the-counter at most grocery stores. The sour taste will not go away for a couple weeks however.

Sour taste can also be associated with infections of the mouth such as the rush or dental infections. However your doctor should have seen both of them on physical exam. In addition, you should be able to see thrush by just opening your mouth. Occasionally people who are diabetic or on steroids can get thrush deep down into the esophagus.

It sounds like your doctor has done a an extensive work up to get to the point of ordering an AMA ( also known as anti-mitochondrial antibody) which is a Marker for one of the genetic liver diseases called primary biliary cirrhosis . It is common in females your age. It is essentially cirrhosis of the ducts that drain the liver. Other reasons why your liver function test can be elevated are from viral hepatitis or acetaminophen use. In addition, many medications can cause elevated liver enzyme test.

I hope this helps.
