Question : Have a sore throat since last evening. Had light cold and Took half cetrizine tablet last night. running nose now stopped with occassional thick and yellow mucus.. Attached is a photo of my throat. It feels like throat swollen when i try to swallow

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having sore throat with running nose.

Based on your clinical details and picture, it appears to be acute pharyngitis secondary to viral cold.

As such, viral cold is self limiting, does not require any antibiotics (antibiotics needed in complications (sinusitis, lung infection).

I suggest you to do salt water gargling twice daily, steam inhalation twice daily (to thin the thick secretions) and take over the counter nasal decongestants (otrivin/xylometazoline) 3drops/3times. For throat pain start over the counter dolo 650mg (paracetamol) and systemic decongestant (cetrizine+ pseudoephderine) HICET-DC once daily.
