Question: Hello, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I recently caught a cold, that started with a sore throat and then nasal congestion begin for the past few days. While I have begun to get much better with less congestion and sore throat. Recently I began waking up with unusal amount of cold in my left eye. Is this early signs of pink eye?

Just curious is this is Viral pinkeye, how long is the eye actually pink or will it clear up and spread to the other eye?

Brief Answer:
viral conjunctivitis resolves on its own in a week or two

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
Thank you for writing in to us at health care magic. This is Dr.Riyanka Chail glad to be answering your query.

I would like to know are there any discharges from the left eye ? if yes then what colour is it and is it watery or thick discharge ?

Also have you taken a course of antibiotics for the sore throat you had?

Since your symptoms are accompanied with respiratory tract infection, it could be a bacterial or a viral conjunctivitis and accompanying sinus problem.

Viral conjunctivitis clears up on its own in a week or two .

However, to make a diagnosis of the cause (bacterial/viral) it is important to examine the eye under a slits lamp (used by ophthalmologists). Hence, please visit an ophthalmologist as he/she may give symptomatic treatment like below:

1. Artificial tears , topical antihistaminic drops are used to give symptomatic relief.
2. Antibiotic eye drops (given to you by nurse) donot help in clearing viral conjunctivitis but can be used to prevent secondary bacterial infection.

Please do get back for more queries or further doubts.

Good Luck.

Brief Answer:
consult a physician for antibiotic treatment for sore throat

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for writing back again with detailed information.
I would suggest you to consult a physician for the sore throat since it has recurred in just few days which means it may be an unresolved bacterial infection. It seems accompanied with conjunctivitis goes in favor of upper resp tract infection.

Your physician might advise you prescription drugs like:
1. Tablet amoxycillin 500mg (antibiotic) thrice a day for 7 days.
2. Tablet Cetrizine 10mg daily once at night only for 3 days.

Gargle with warm saline water twice a day.

Kindly continue with the antibiotic eye drops as advised to you.
The infection needs to be resolved first. Soon , the other associated eye problem shall also get resolved.

If you are satisfied with my answer please rate the answer.

Good Luck.
