Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Redness On The Tongue

Question: 3 weeks ago, I was exposed to a risky, sexual situation I guess, in which I was inadvertently exposed to seminal fluids. This was not by choice. I ventured into an adult arcade, that was completely filthy, and just plain - risky. Was my first time. Once exposed, I immediately left and didn't think much about it until I started getting a sore throat ~10 days later. Went to urgent care, had a rapid strep test that showed as negative, but they put me on a Z-Pac anyway. After taking the meds, I noticed my throat was very, very red, so I went to my PCP and had an STI culture taken, and blood test taken. This was 2 weeks after exposure. Both came back negative 48 hours later. Now, for the past 6-7 days, I've continued to have a red throat, with small red dots appearing on my tongue. There's been general discomfort, and slight pain on the tongue and inside of my lips. My PCP simply stated it was viral and would eventually go away. My question is what virus I could've been exposed to, when can I expect symptoms to subside, and at which point should I be retested for safety?

Please don't worry! please see the detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hello! I have been through your question.

Related your concern you shouldn't worry because some STI( gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis ) that you could get in this kind of situation ( you mean oral sex, right?) with these symptoms, good that you've already taken the blood tests which has excluded STIs.

Furthermore, 2 weeks are enough to have a conclusive result for STIs.
As well, taking Z-Pac is a good choice to treat Chlamydia.

I agree with your doctor that most probably this could be a common viral infectious situation or maybe you should exclude a mononucleosis as well (EBV IgM, IgG).

I hope my answer helps you. Feel free to ask further.

Regards.

Oral sex, you are correct. I realize that the Z-Pac would probably cure gonorrhea or chlamydia. But I've had concerns about syphilis, HPV, and oral herpes. Doesn't it take longer than 2 weeks for symptoms to occur? Meaning my tests would come back normal anyway? Not to mention HIV. I realize that if this is a common virus, it'll go away on it's own. Are there other tests that can be taken to identify what virus this could be, for example mono, EBV IgM, IGG, etc?

Thank you again!

Brief Answer:
Please don't worry. There is no reason for concern.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you writing back in healthcaremagic.

Related your concern I think you should wait to see the final results of the tests that you have done for STI.
Usually 2 weeks are enough to detect the STI but in some cases test and symptoms to occur for HSV needs more than 2 weeks to be more confident.

Furthermore about HIV , you should know that oral sex has a very low risk to get infection except in the case you have open wounds in mouth.
As well you should know that VIRScan is a test that can detect all viruses in your body.

I hope my answer helps you.
I wish you a quick recovery.
Regards.
