Brief Answer:
post nasal drip or lesion in the throat

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Acute viral or bacterial infection should not last 6 weeks. That would normally last maximally 2 weeks. The absence of fever makes persisting infection unlikely as well

The other common cause of sore throat, difficulty swallowing and swelling would be post nasal drip due to sinus disease. 20 % of persons with post nasal drip would not be aware that it is present.
A more serious cause would be a lesion/mass in the throat which can affect any area including the tonsils.

It would be best to consider visiting an ENT doctor. He or she can take a look inside of your throat, identify any abnormal areas and rule out more serious disease.
If it is only post nasal drip then treatment would be decongestants, anti histamines and topical nasal sprays (nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort)

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
