Question: Hi,
I have had a sore throat now for about 2 weeks that initially came with symptoms of a cold ie head ache, body pains and fatigue. I have since gotten over all my symptoms except my sore throat. The only medicines I used were over the counter the rally and halls for my sore throat. Pls advise on what next to do about my sore throat. Thank you

Brief Answer:
About your sore throat

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

In reading over the history your wrote, a few things come to mind:

It sounds as though you may have had a fever initially, if you were having body pains. And these symptoms plus sore throat can sometimes be due to strep throat. Even if your other symptoms have resolved, it might be a good idea, if your throat symptoms are getting no better, to go in for a throat swab. In an urgent care clinic, they can do a swab to check for both strep and flu.

Another thought is that if you still have residual post nasal drainage in your throat, this can give a sore throat too. And you may not actually feel the drainage - just the soreness. For this, a decongestant such as pseudoephedrine can be helpful. Purchasing it does not require a prescription but you do have to ask the pharmacist for it.

Going in to the doctor to have a look is a good idea at this point. A doctor can see if the tonsils are inflamed, or if there is drainage on the back of the throat.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
