Suggest Treatment For Sore Tongue

Question: I have a sore tongue, persisting for several weeks; enlarged taste buds and general irritation. No changes in diet or other habits. I have very good health generally.

Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Having a sore throat, enlarged taste buds and general irritation persisting for several weeks are signs of possible oral infection. As this has been going on for several weeks, I think it's time to run some tests like
- oral swab culture (for bacteria, strep, candida)
- complete blood count
- ENT examination

If you are also having burning sensation in your chest, or pain in the stomach, I'd suggest to run upper endoscopy and a good GI consultation to exclude stomach issues like gastritis/acid reflux or ulcer.

For the moment, continue with keeping good oral hygiene as you are doing until you get the tests done.

There is no sore throat - all of the soreness is in my tongue. And like most times I make a medical appointment, it started to improve as soon as I pressed send.

I have an order for general check-up blood work which I will get soon and will contact my doctor if the soreness continues. Thanks!
