Question : Hi i have sore scratchy itchy throat with white puss on tosills do i need antibiodics thankyou XXXXXXX

Antibiotics are not required. Gurgle with lukewarm water is required

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Sore throat is usually caused due to certain viral infections (eg. by a virus called Epstein Barr Virus resulting in a condition called infectious mononucleosis) although certain bacteria (like Streptococcus sp.) could be involved as well. Irrespective of the cause, it does not usually need to be treated with antibiotics and irrespective of the use of antibiotics, such infections can last for 5-10 days. In fact, in case of Epstein Barr virus, use of antibiotics like amoxycillin can give rise to rashes.

In the earlier communication you had not mentioned that it has been lasting for 2 weeks. In that case it can be assumed that your body has not been able to fight it off. The pus points indicate the possibility of a bacterial infection. In such a scenario, I would suggest you to get it examined by a doctor. You may also go for a course of antibiotics after discussing with your doctor.
