Suggest Treatment For Soreness And Pain In Hip And Knee

Question: Hi, I am 67 and an XXXXXXX XXXXXXX woman. I am very active at work and at home. For the past few days my right hip and my right knee ache and are sore. I get stiff when I sit too long. I take meds for asthma (mild), high blood pressure (under control) and generic lipitor for high cholesterol. I suspected at first that I was reacting to the Lipitor since I don't take it on a regular basis, however, now I'm not sure. I didn't take it last night and my hip is not as sore but the knee is stiff until I get up from my desk and walk around. I took Aleve yesterday but I am afraid to take anything since the report came out about all otc pain relievers possibly causing stroke or heart attack. I know I need to see my primary physician, but in the mean time, can you make any other suggestions?

Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible osteoarthritis.
I don't think it is statin induced. that will cause muscle pain, not joint pain.
I would suggest getting an X ray for diagnosis.
Meanwhile regular exercises and cold compresses may help.
I won't suggest taking too many medicines.
The other possibility is that of a joint infection.
However, in that too you will need an X ray.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
