Suggest Treatment For Soreness And Swelling On The Buttocks After Being Stung By A Wasp

Question: I was stung by a wasp on the back of my upper thigh last night (apparently sat on the little devil!). My backside is now quite swollen and sore. A couple years of months ago a wasp stung me on my finger and by several hours later my whole hand ballooned up and began to itch like crazy. After a week of thinking it would get better on its own, (instead it was progressively getting worse), I went to my Doc who prescribed 40 mgs of prednisone (20 mgs. Twice a day). I still have six of those pills leftover. Last night after the sting I took 50 mgs of Benedryl (pills) along with 150 mgs of ranitidine & 800 mgs ibuprofen. My question is - should I take the prednisone instead of last night regimen, or should I do it IN ADDITION TO the ranitidine & benedryl? I also have Zantac on hand which I have read can also help but have not taken any of that yet (1 pill/day). Should I incorporate that, as well - and if so, how often for each & how much? I really don't want this thing to keep getting bigger & worse like the last sting did - and as it's a Sunday my physician is unavailable. Thanks!
Brief Answer:
Prednisolone should help. Self medication not recommended.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your concern. My advice to you would be:
* Apply some emollient like calamine lotion topically.
* Continue taking Benadryl and rantac.
* Prednisolone can be useful. However, a clinical evaluation is needed prior to that. Moreover, self medication with such medicines is not recommended and I would insist you rather to wait till Monday when you can see a doctor.
* You need not include Zantac. Hence, the dose is not applicable.
Let me know if I could be of any further assistance.
