Question: I have a lot of authritis and am a diabetic. I have a lot of soreness in my legs and it is difficult to walk. I have so much stiffness and need a walker to get around. My family physician has done nothing to help me with this. He just gives me medicine for sugar, high blood pressure and colestrol. Where can I go for help with this?

Brief Answer:
Are you on statins? If yes, for how long?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain that you have been reporting. Drugs for cholesterol are known to cause severe muscle aches. I will like to know if you are on any of such drug as it could be the most likely cause of your symptoms. For this, please provide a detailed list of all the medications you take.

I understand you tried tramadol without success. However, there are several pain medications out there that should be tried until we get what works for you. Some of the more potent drugs that require a doctor's prescription as well as a combination of the day to day OTC pain medications like Tylenol, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, etc.

For now, I will like to know what medications you are on. If there is a statin,I may advocate that it should be changed as that would be the most likely cause of your soreness and difficulties getting around.

With this added information, I will provide more insights and make reasonable recommendations to address this and enable you to lead a pain free or with minimal pains. I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Until then, I wish you well.
