Spasm of neck muscles or URTI
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for your query.
In your post, you have not mentioned regarding any history of systemic illness like Hypertension, Diabetes, etc.
Under such circumstances, the symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Para-spinal muscle spasm due to improper sleeping posture - presence of pain on waking up everyday points towards this.
Management will involve application of muscle relaxant gel & intake of analgesic (like Diclofenac, Ibuprofen or Aleve) + Pantoprazole preparation.
Physiotherapy and postural exercises will also be helpful.
2. Upper respiratory tract infection - There is a connecting tract (known as Eustachian tube) between the nasopharynx & middle ear through which pressure equilibrium is maintained.
Any obstruction to this Eustachian tube, secondary to an upper respiratory tract infection, cold & congestion, etc. can lead to stuffiness/ pain sensation by causing un-equalisation of pressure between the nasopharynx & middle ear.
Under such circumstances you need to use decongestant nasal drops to relieve the obstruction as well as take antihistamine preparations like Cetrizine or Allegra.
Clinical examination is important for diagnosis, so I will advise you to consult your Doctor for a proper clinical examination.
Certain investigations like complete blood count, serum electrolyte estimation, X ray of cervical spine might be needed.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
