Question: Hi
I had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy 14 days ago. The ent surgeon said they were very infected and the recovery would not be easy. I find that right behind my nose it feels sore and congested and difficult to clear. Is this normal? How long could this last and is there anything I can do to relieve this?

Brief Answer:
Yes, this is normal..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Yes, this discomfort is normal, given your history.

2. This should settle down soon as the average immediate healing period is 4 to 6 weeks.

3. Your medication should include anti-allergic, mucolytics, anti-inflammatory medications (with anti-reflux medication), steam inhation and saline nasal washes.

4.Bring this to the attention of your surgeon if the symptoms persist beyond 4 to 6 weeks or worsen.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thankyou! Do other people feel this after adenoidectomies? I rarely read anyone complaining about uncomfortable congestion behind their nose after this surgery.
